Finance 101

Here’s what you should expect from a basic Finance 101 class.

You’re a freshman college student and you’re taking your first finance class. This is a class that covers the basics of finance. The class is geared toward people and students with little or no finance experience or education. You’re probably working toward an associate degree, as a 4 year degree in finance requires finance classes at the 300 level.

Here the standard topics that are covered in Finance 101:

  • An overview of what finance is
  • Personal finance
  • An overview of accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Budgeting, budget creation, and budget management
  • Basic contracts
  • Payroll overview
  • Fixed assets overview
  • Surplus property overview
  •

The class is very general. There is a lot of overlap between finance and accounting in this course. If possible, you’d probably be better served by skipping this class (if your college will let you) and taking a higher level finance course.
